History of Perry-Spencer Communications, Inc.

Discussions began in the summer of 1994 at the Perry-Spencer Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. about providing toll-free Internet access to the local area. Beginning around this time, Internet articles started appearing on a more frequent basis in trade magazines and newspapers, Internet demonstrations were appearing at trade shows and Internet was quickly becoming the "buzz word" anytime you had a group of people gathered together.

We knew that as this technology progressed, it would have a dramatic impact on the way people communicate. And with the price of personal computers becoming more affordable for the average consumer, many American households would be using this technology as a communications tool... if access was affordable! Enter... Perry-Spencer Communications, Inc. (PSCI).
Since Internet data is transmitted across telephone networks, and Perry-Spencer Rural Telephone Cooperative is a telephone company, Internet was a natural service offering. By Spring of 1995, Perry-Spencer Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. had made a commitment to offer local (toll-free) Internet access to the entire Perry, Spencer and Dubois county area. The subsidiary, Perry-Spencer Communications, Inc. (PSCI) was created expressly for this purpose. On August 1, 1995, PSCI opened the on-ramp to the Information Superhighway to our rural area. No longer were the residents of Perry, Spencer and Dubois counties at an economic disadvantage for electronic information just because they prefer to live in a rural setting. And were they ever thirsty for information... over 300 people signed up by the end of the year!

We have seen a steady customer growth from the onset. We regularly upgrade our equipment to accomodate this growth and to stay current with technology. Our goal is to keep a modem ratio of at least 8:1, much better than the industry average of 10:1.
