How To Use PSC Online Mail

Online Mail allows you to access messages on the PSC mail server from anywhere you can get access to the Internet. This feature is especially handy for checking your new messages when away from your computer but have access to a computer with Internet Access, such as a library, cruise ship, hotel, etc.

Messages you have already downloaded to your computer through Outlook Express or another e-mail program cannot be accessed through Online Mail. Only new messages that currently reside on the PSC Mail Server will be available through Online Mail.

To access Online Mail:

1. Go to the PSC Home Page, (http://www.psci.net) and click on the link for Online Mail.
2. Type your PSC username (not the full address) and your password. Click the Login button.

If this is the first time you have accessed Online Mail, you will see a Preferences page. Type your name in the Real Name: field. This is the only preference you need to set. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save button. On the next page, click the Continue button to continue to your Inbox. After saving your Preferences, you will automatically be taken to the Inbox folder when you log on in the future.

To read a message: Click on the subject of the message. When finished, click the Inbox folder icon in the upper left corner of the page. This will return you to the Inbox list.

To reply to a message: Click on the Reply or Reply All icon at the top of the page. Type your reply; then click the Send button at the bottom of the page.

To forward a message: Click on the Forward button at the top of the page. Enter the address or click the TO: link to open your Address Book. Type your message (if desired), then click the Send button at the bottom of the page.

To create a new message: From the Inbox page, click the Compose button. Enter the recipient's address in the TO: field (of click the TO: link and select the recipient from your address book). Type a subject and your message. Click the Send button at the bottom of the page.

To delete a message:

From the message page: In the upper right corner of the page, set the folder name to Trash. Click the Move button to move the message to the Trash folder. You will automatically be taken to the next message in your list.

From the Inbox folder list: Click the checkbox at the end of each message you want to delete. In the upper right corner of the page, set the folder name to Trash. Click the Move button to move the checked messages to the Trash folder.

Note that messages in the Trash folder (or any other folder) count toward your 11MB mailbox limit.

To empty the Trash folder: Click the Trashcan icon at the top of the Inbox page.

To move a message to another folder: Click on the subject of the message to open, or from the Inbox folder check the checkbox at the end of the message(s). In the upper right corner of the page, set the folder name to the name of the folder. Click the Move button to move the checked messages to the selected folder.

Note that messages that are move from the Inbox to another folder cannot be moved back to the Inbox folder, and will not be downloaded to Outlook Express or other mail program when you check for messages. Messages in any folder count toward your 11MB mailbox limit.

To create a new folder: From the Inbox page, click on the New Folder icon. Type a name for the new folder, then click Add.


Address Book

To use addresses in the address book:

From the Compose Message page: Click on the TO: link. Check the box for the e-mail address(es) you want to use. Click OK. The address(es) will appear in the TO: field. You can do the same for the CC: and BCC: fields.

From the Address Book: On the Inbox page, click the Address Book icon at the top of the page. Click the address (not the name) of the person you want to send a message to. This will open the Compose Message page with the address in the TO: field.

To send an attachment:

Note that there is a 1MB limit to attachments in Online Mail.

On the Compose page, go to the Attachment: field and click the Browse button. Browse to the file you want to send; then click the Open button. Click the Add button to attach the file to the message.

To download file attachments:

Picture files: Some picture files will open when you open the message to which they have been attached. To save these pictures to your computer, right click on EACH picture, then click "Save Picture As". Browse to the folder where you want to save the file, then click Save.

Other file types:

Online Mail will sometimes include the contents of .txt files or other file types that Internet Explorer can open as part of the message when opening. To save this text, highlight the text, then copy. Open the NotePad program, and paste the text in the window. Save the file.

Other attached file types will have a "Download" link at the bottom of the message, showing the name of the file. In some cases, you can click on the Download link and the file will download and open in the appropriate program, which you can then save the file.

Note that trying to open some file types may produce an error message. For those file types, click your Back button on your browser to go back to the message page. Right-click on the Download link; click Save Target As; then browse to the folder on the computer where you want to save the file. Click the Save button to save the file.
