Router Checklist

These checklists are designed to lead you step-by-step through the troubleshooting process. It is VERY important that you do not skip over steps without completing.

1. Is the problem confined to one computer, or all computers have a problem accessing the Internet?
  • If the answer is ALL, try restarting the router. Your router may have logged out but didn't log back in when it received a request to connect to the Internet. If you still can't connect, go on to Step 2.

  • If the answer is only one computer, try restarting that computer.

  • If the computer connects to the router with a cable, check to make sure the cable is connected. Disconnect each end of the cable and reconnect. Listen for the "click" that the cable is locked in place.

  • If the computer connects to the router wirelessly, check the connection's signal strength. If it shows poor or unavailable, there may be a problem either with the wireless access part of your router, or with the wireless Ethernet in your computer. Try restarting the router and the computer.

  • If you have other wireless computers, and they are unable to access the Internet, the problem is in the router or connection. Go on to Step 2.
  • 2. Are you able to access the router?
