If you have more than one modem installed in your computer, verify that the correct modem is selected, and that the phone line is connected to the correct modem in the back of your computer. If you only have one modem installed, but the list is showing more than one modem, you can test that you have the correct one selected by attempting to dial. If you are unable to hear the modem dial out, listed on your phone while trying to dial. You should hear a click on the line that the modem has opened a connection, then may see a "No dial tone" error on the connection or hear the modem dial. If you do not have another firewall program on your computer, such as Norton or McAfee, this option should be set to On (recommended).8. You may need to adjust these settings for particular programs you have installed, or may be prompted again for access when you use programs that require an Internet connection, such as Yahoo Messenger, MSN messenger, etc.

Warning: Do NOT perform this procedure without first locating your operating system CD or ensuring that you have the appropriate Windows .cab files on your hard drive.1. Open the Dial-up Networking folder:
Windows Me: Click on Start > Settings; double-click Dial-up Networking Windows 98: Double-click My Computer; double-click Dial-up Networking 2. Delete any dial-up networking connections by right-clicking on the icon for the connection, then click Delete.
3. Close the Dial-up Networking folder.
4. Click on Start > Settings; click on Control Panel
5. Click on the Network icon
6. In the list of Installed Network Componets, remove any of the components by clicking once on the component to highlight, then click the Remove button. DO NOT remove any other componets.

8. When the computer has restarted, follow the instructions for setting up a Dial-up Connection. After Step 2, Windows will re-install the Networking components that were removed. You may be prompted to place your Windows CD in the CD-ROM drive if Windows .cab files are not on your hard drive. When the Connection Wizard finishes, you will be prompted to restart the computer again. Click YES.
